The Seoul Metropolitan Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Intuitive Surgical, the world’s leading robotic surgery company, to attract a foreign direct investment (FDI) of KRW 15 billion.
Under the agreement, Intuitive Surgical plans to invest an additional KRW 15 billion over the next five years and create more than 100 new jobs.
The company has already completed an initial investment of KRW 10 billion in the Surgical Innovation Center located in Seoul’s Digital Media City (DMC), designated as Korea’s first service-type foreign investment zone.
Seoul will provide incentives in accordance with the Foreign Investment Promotion Act and related regulations to support new business and R&D initiatives.
The city aims to become one of the world’s top five global innovation cities by attracting leading companies in emerging industries such as quantum technology, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
